"Why check the datasheet!?" ..”Its just a Liquid Membrane..A Wall Coating… A Floor Appliaction…it’s like paint..Give it two coats and we are done”.
“Why are datasheets so important, anyway, what other information can I expect to find in them? It seems like a large amount of information not worth reading.. I have experience and know how, not going to read a long dry document the manufacturer publishes.”
These are all too common attitudes, justifications and assumptions of not taking time to read datasheets. This frequently leads to seemingly; possible product failures, months or years down the track, sometimes even a very short time after project completion.
Is it really worth reading the entire thing?
It is always advisable to read the entire data sheet. Special attention should be given to information related to:
Other important information that one should look for is the application of the product. Is it possible to dilute, if so, what should it be diluted with. Some chemicals, even water can damage the properties of certain products. Never assume that Thinners are an across the board diluters. What tools can one apply the system with. A little extra time reading could save you a lot of time during application.
Information that is very often missed is the Yield. How many kilos or litres per meter squared is required to achieve the best results. The Yield is a very important factor in achieving a System that reflects its specification and works to optimum expectation. Some suppliers may at times take advantage of customers’ lack of product yield knowledge in order to obtain a competitive edge over their competitors. The customer would simply compare price per volume of competitive products and fails to realise that should the product be applied as per yield specification, the cheaper product might end up being similar in price if not more expensive.
At Flock Image, we believe in giving our customers the opportunity to achieve the best results possible. All our datasheets list clearly the product properties as well as Typical use, Preparation, Application and Product Yields. Our service extends to, through product information and on site advice. We offer our customers Supply and Apply and for those that are handy and wish save on labour cost, we also offer DIY.
